Confirmed in the Spirit! High School Confirmation Class The three sacraments of initiation in the Catholic Church include Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Baptism is usually received in infancy. First Eucharist is received when a child reaches the age of reason, around the second grade. Confirmation, however, is received when the maturing Christian is ready and able to affirm his/her beliefs in Jesus Christ and his Church as a young adult. Choosing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation as a junior in high school welcomes the Holy Spirit to strengthen and renew the gifts and graces received at Baptism. Confirmation helps a young person to face the challenges of a secular world with faith in Christ and conviction in his teachings. Confirmation is also necessary to become a godparent and for Christian marriage. This Confirmation Program is for High School students beginning their Junior year, who are attending Catholic, private, or public schools. The immediate preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation assumes that the candidate has been learning about the Catholic faith at home, in Catholic religious education classes, and through parish celebrations of the liturgy. In preparing for Confirmation, candidates will review the Deposit of Faith given to us by Jesus and reflect on what the Catholic faith means to them on both a personal and a communal level.
